Foundation "Stiftung Furka-Bergstrecke"

Since August 12th, 2010 nostalgic trains, pulled by steam engines, have run on the historic Furka railway route from Realp to Oberwald passing the glacier of Rhone. That definitely was a milestone in the history of this unique venture. Even if the complete route is passable to Oberwald now, the infrastructure plants still must be extended further and the maintenance of the rebuilt parts requires high expenditures. Considerable means also must be invested in the engines and cars. The reconstruction and the traffic of this unique railway route is made possible by engaged and technically competent railway fans with innumerable voluntary working hours.

Furthermore considerable financial means are required which can not only be raised by the sale of tickets and donations of the supporting association. In order to preserve the Furka railway route as a cultural value of national interest and significance the SFB wants to raise the required financial means here and make it available for the steam railway´s construction and operation. The association is non-profit making and is exempted from tax. It is domiciled in Oberwald.

The statutory of the foundation´s purpose is described as follow:

The Foundation has the purpose of promoting the Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway in the interest of safeguarding this historical cultural asset of national importance and as a contribution to the sustainable development of the regions of Goms and Urseren.

It shall accumulate and manage an endowment fund for donations and sponsor contributions in order to finance the repair and maintenance of the buildings, facilities and means of transport necessary for the operation of the steam railway.

The Foundation shall have a charitable character and not pursue any kind of profit-making purposes.

The foundation is led by a foundation council. Please find its members` addresses under "Contact"
